MP3 Bitrate and File Size

Bitrate is the amount of data used per second of audio. At the same duration, a higher bitrate uses more space. The quality you hear also depends on the original recording and how it was encoded.

Approximate sizes for five minutes of MP3 audio
BitrateSizeQuality and size
128 kbps4.8 MBSmaller file. Fine detail can be lost more readily.
192 kbps7.2 MBMiddle size. This is the MP3 output used here.
320 kbps12 MBLarger file. Can retain more detail from a good source.

128 and 320 kbps are comparison examples. The converter outputs MP3 at 192 kbps. Sizes are estimates in decimal MB, excluding file metadata. Encoding at a higher bitrate cannot recover detail missing from the source.

MP3 or M4A?

Choose MP3 if your player or editing app asks for an MP3 file. Choose M4A to keep a compatible source AAC audio track. The M4A bitrate depends on that track, so the MP3 estimates above do not apply.

If you need the picture, see the YouTube to MP4 homepage or the YouTube Shorts to MP4 guide for portrait video. The YouTube Shorts Downloader explains where to find the link to a single Short.

If Your Audio Download Fails

Link check fails
Open the recording on YouTube and copy its individual share link again. A private recording or an unavailable source may fail the check.
Audio cannot be prepared
The tool needs a compatible source audio track. Try a different recording you have permission to save, or try again later if requests are temporarily limited.
Saved file won’t play
Check that your browser completed the transfer and that your player supports the selected format. Save the file again if the link is still active.

Save only recordings you own or have permission to download, and follow the YouTube Terms of Service.
