Information used to prepare a download

When you submit a link, the service uses its YouTube video ID to retrieve the title, duration and available formats. It processes your chosen format, task status and a random browser identifier to prepare the file and restrict access to your task. The homepage downloader does not require an account or read your YouTube login cookies.

Requests also expose connection information, such as IP address and browser headers, to the server receiving them. This notice does not promise that development, hosting or security logs are absent. Public-service log retention has not been set.

Cookies and browser controls

After a successful link check, an essential cookie named youtube_download_session associates this browser with its download tasks. It lasts up to 24 hours and is restricted to /api/downloads. It is HttpOnly and SameSite=Strict; HTTPS connections also use the Secure flag.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Doing so can prevent downloads or remove access to an existing task. Deleting a cookie does not delete files already saved to your device. No advertising cookies are added by the downloader. Analytics is disabled by default; this notice must be updated to describe any tracking enabled for a public service.

Temporary files and retention

Video inspection details expire after 5 minutes. A ready file is available for 20 minutes. Cleanup runs periodically, so physical deletion may happen shortly after expiry and may wait for an active file transfer to finish. Expired task details may remain in memory for a further 5 minutes.

Downloaded media is held on temporary processing-server disk. The public download service uses Cloudflare Containers; local development uses the local service’s disk. Files are not saved in an account or object-storage bucket, and restarting a processing instance can remove its temporary files before expiry. Canceling an active task removes its temporary output. Files you save to your own device remain under your control.

Connections to other services

Preparing a download requires the service to contact YouTube and its media delivery providers. Opening YouTube links also connects your browser to YouTube. Those services process requests under their own policies. This downloader does not send your video link to a paid conversion API.
