How to Convert YouTube to MP4
01 / PASTE
Copy one video link
Open the video on YouTube, choose Share, and copy its link. Paste the link into the box above. Both youtube.com and youtu.be links work, and you can use the Share link for a Short. If the video belongs to a playlist, copy the link for the individual video you want to save.
02 / CHOOSE
Choose MP4 and start
Keep MP4 selected and click Download once to check the link and prepare the file. The default is the highest compatible quality available up to 1080p. Open Advanced options before starting if you need a specific resolution. An unavailable exact quality will produce a message so you can choose another setting.
03 / SAVE
Save and open the file
Wait until Save file appears, then select it to start the browser download. Open your browser’s downloads list to check when the transfer finishes and find the saved file. If you want to save a different video next, choose Convert another and paste the new link.

Why Use Our YouTube to MP4 Converter
This YouTube to MP4 converter is free to use in your browser. You can download YouTube videos and Shorts without creating an account, entering payment details, or installing an app. “YT to MP4” is shorthand for “YouTube to MP4” and uses the same steps on this page.
MP4 keeps the picture and sound in one file. When the source provides them separately, the service combines compatible video and audio tracks for playback together. This is useful when a video includes spoken instructions, dialogue, or other audio you need alongside the picture.
Use one recorded video up to 30 minutes long. Each output file can be up to 500 MiB, and ready files are available for up to 20 minutes. Save the file before the link expires and keep your own copy if you need it later.
Download only content you own or have permission to save, and follow the YouTube Terms of Service. Check your permission separately if you plan to edit or share the saved file.
YouTube to MP4 Quality Options
Choose a quality based on how you plan to watch the file and how much space you have. For a short reference clip on a phone, a smaller file can be easier to keep. If the picture contains small text or fine detail, check whether the source offers a higher resolution.
Example sizes for a five-minute landscape MP4
Quality
Resolution

360p
640 × 360
15–35 MB
720p
1280 × 720

1080p
1920 × 1080
95–225 MB
These examples use total video and audio bitrates of roughly 0.4–0.9, 1.2–2.9, and 2.5–6 Mbps, respectively. The converter uses compatible source streams, so motion, frame rate, and the source bitrate can move the actual size outside these ranges. The dimensions shown are typical for 16:9 video.
1080p is available only when the source offers a compatible stream. A resolution shown in the YouTube player may use a different video encoding from the streams this tool can prepare. If an exact setting is unavailable, try Best available or choose another supported quality.
Convert YouTube Shorts to MP4
Open the Short, choose Share, and copy its link. Paste the youtube.com/shorts/ link or the youtu.be share link into the same box you use for regular videos. Choose MP4 to keep the video and sound together.
A portrait Short keeps its original aspect ratio. For example, a 720p Short can be 720 × 1280, while a 720p landscape video can be 1280 × 720. The quality label follows the shorter side, so the taller dimension of a Short does not determine its quality. The file retains its orientation when you open it in a compatible player.
MP4 vs MP3 vs M4A
Choose MP4 when you need to see what happens on screen. For a lecture, interview, or other recording you only plan to listen to, choose an audio format from the same menu.
Download formats compared
Format
What you save
MP4
Video with sound, using compatible H.264 video and AAC audio.
MP3
Audio only, converted to 192 kbps MP3.
M4A
Audio only, keeping a compatible source AAC track.
MP3 is a practical choice when the player or device specifically asks for an MP3 file. If your player supports M4A, that option can keep the source AAC audio without converting it to MP3. Check the formats accepted by the app where you plan to use the file.
Frequently Asked Questions
How to troubleshoot a failed download
Link can’t be read
A playlist address or incomplete URL may point to no single video. Open the video on YouTube and copy its Share link again. If the source is restricted, try another video you have permission to save.
Saved file has no sound
The original may be silent, or the device may have muted playback. Check the source and the player volume, then try the MP4 in another player that supports AAC audio.
Processing seems stuck
The service may still be fetching or checking the streams. Leave the page open while processing. If the task times out after 10 minutes, start a new task and try a lower available resolution for a large source.
File looks damaged or won’t open
The browser transfer may have been interrupted. Check its downloads list for a completed transfer, then click Save file again if the link is still active. If the link has expired, prepare the file again.
Is the converter free?
Yes, you can prepare and save supported files for free. The converter does not ask for payment details.
Do I need to register?
No, you can submit a link directly on the homepage. Save the file from the same browser session so it can access the task it created.
What is the highest MP4 quality?
The highest supported quality is 1080p when a compatible source stream is available. The default uses the highest supported quality it finds for that video.
Can I download Shorts?
Yes, the tool accepts links to individual YouTube Shorts. Choose MP4 if you want to keep the picture and sound together.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, you can use the converter in a mobile browser. The file’s location depends on your browser and device download settings.
Why does the link check sometimes fail?
YouTube may limit requests or restrict access to the video. Check that the source is a single public recording and try again later if the service is temporarily limited.
What are the video and file limits?
A recorded video can be up to 30 minutes long, and the output can be up to 500 MiB. You can prepare one file at a time per browser session. Live streams, private videos, and members-only content are unsupported.
How long is a ready file available?
You have up to 20 minutes to save a ready file. After expiry, submit the link again to prepare a new copy.
Do you keep the link I submit?
The service uses the video ID to check the source and prepare a temporary download. Link inspection details expire after five minutes, and Google Analytics does not receive your submitted link. See the Privacy Policy for what the service processes and how hosting logs are handled.
