SAVE A SHORT AS A VIDEO FILE

YouTube Shorts to MP4 Converter

Turn a YouTube Short into an MP4 with picture and sound. Paste the link, keep MP4 selected, and save the finished file through your browser. The converter is free and requires no sign-up.

Advanced options

Default: best available quality up to 1080p. Exact quality must be available in the source; we never upscale or silently choose a lower quality.

How to Save a YouTube Short as MP4

01 / COPY

Copy the link to one Short

Open the Short you want to save, select Share, and copy the link. Paste it into the box above. For help finding a clip’s share link, see our YouTube Shorts Downloader. To see what a supported link looks like, choose the Shorts example in the tool. It fills in the link so you can inspect it before submitting.

02 / PREPARE

Prepare the video

Leave the format set to MP4 and select Download. The converter checks the source and prepares the highest compatible quality it can use, up to 1080p. If you need a specific resolution for an editor or a smaller copy for your phone, pick an exact setting in Advanced options before starting.

03 / SAVE

Save a copy on your device

When Save file appears, select it in the same browser. This starts the transfer to your device. Wait for the transfer to finish in your browser’s downloads list, then open the MP4 there or find it in the folder your browser uses for downloads.

Portrait Video and Resolution

A portrait Short stays portrait when saved as MP4. The converter keeps the dimensions and aspect ratio of the compatible stream it uses. A typical vertical 720p frame is 720 × 1280 pixels. A typical vertical 1080p frame is 1080 × 1920 pixels. A Short with a different aspect ratio can have different dimensions at the same quality.

The quality label follows the shorter side of the frame. That is why a vertical video with 1280 pixels of height can still be 720p. The available settings are 360p, 720p, and 1080p, depending on which compatible streams YouTube offers for that specific Short.

Choose Best available if you want the tool to make the selection. If an exact quality is unavailable, the tool asks you to pick another setting. Choose an available lower resolution if you have limited storage, or open the finished file in your editor and check its dimensions before setting up a project.

What You Get in the MP4 File

MP4 combines compatible H.264 video and AAC audio in one file. When YouTube provides the video and audio separately, the service joins those tracks before the file is ready. You can then play it in a compatible video player or import it into an editor that accepts MP4.

Use MP4 when the visuals matter, such as saving your own portrait tutorial for review. For an audio-only file, see the YouTube to MP3 guide. If you’re saving a regular landscape video, use the YouTube to MP4 converter on the homepage for guidance on regular video links and device downloads.

Before deleting a second copy or closing your editor, play the saved file and listen to a few seconds of audio. If you plan to transfer it to another device, use the MP4 from your downloads folder rather than the temporary Save file link.

When a Short Won’t Save

Check that the link opens a single recorded Short. Private or otherwise restricted sources may fail the link check. If the page reports an unavailable quality, try Best available. If the transfer was interrupted, click Save file again while the download is still available.

Each video can be up to 30 minutes long, and each output file can be up to 500 MiB. A ready file is available for up to 20 minutes. If its link expires, prepare the Short again. Save only content you own or have permission to download, and follow the YouTube Terms of Service.
